The ‘Vinicius case’ continues to give much to talk about in the world. Now it was the Christ the Redeemer, the iconic statue of Rio de Janeiro, who turned off its lights this Monday in an act of solidarity with the Real Madrid player after the racist acts at Mestalla.
The action, carried out by the Archdiocesan Sanctuary that manages the monument, is a collaboration between the CBF and the Observatory group for Racial Discrimination in Soccer.
The lighting of the Christ the Redeemer was turned off for an hour in an act seen as “a symbol of the collective fight against racism and in solidarity with the player and all those who suffer from prejudice around the world,” the authorities said.
