Today, 28 years ago, Yolanda Saldívar became one of the most repudiated people in the United States, after she took the life of Selena Quintanilla.

Today, Saldívar spends her days in solitary confinement in a 12-by-7-foot cell at the Mountain View Unit Prison, Gatesville, Texas.

Much has been written and said about the reason why the creator of the fan club of the queen of “Tex Mex” pulled the trigger to kill off the Bidi bidi bom bom interpreter.

The most accepted hypothesis is that Yolanda committed the homicide because she was afraid of being fired by Selena.

After convincing Selena’s brother to create the fan club and make it grow, Yolanda gained the singer’s trust, to the point that she appointed her manager of her chain of clothing stores.

Selena’s family discovered a shortage of $30,000, Abraham Quintanilla confronted Saldívar and that would have been the trigger for him to buy a 38-millimeter pistol.

Later, Yolanda rented a room at the Days Inn Hotel in Corpus Christi, where she summoned Selena Quintanilla to deliver documents and justify herself.

Carlos Valdez, the prosecutor in the case, told the A&E channel’s Real Crime program that “Yolanda wanted to kill Selena because she knew that Selena wanted to fire her.”

In room 158 of the aforementioned hotel, Selena told Yolanda that she no longer wanted to know anything about her because she was hurt by her betrayal.

The words of the interpreter of Bidi bidi bom bom enraged Saldívar and he ended up shooting, although at all times he assured that the death was accidental.
